PRODUCTION/sTudio ASSISTANT - RIDGEWOOD (QUEENS), ny

we have partnered with our friends and local design community members in common with to produce all of the ceramic lampshades from their “handmade” collection in the malka dina studio! we are looking for one full-time, permanent production/studio assistant with ceramic experience to join our team to help us fabricate these GORGEOUS, handmade ceramic lampshades as our production demands RAMP UP. Candidates should have an appreciation for beautiful, handmade ceramics AND be self-starterS who thrive in a fast-pased environment and enjoy all ASPECTS of the pottery process. OUR MAIN FOCUS IS on slip-casting but WE also employ some hand building and glazing so knowledge of a variety of techniques is a huge bonus!

respoNsibilities:

  • making pieces from start to finish - from mixing slip or reclaiming clay to prepping pieces for the kiln

  • keeping DILIGENT track of time and process while making large batches of pieces SIMULTANEOUSLY

  • assisting other team members whenever necessary

  • maintaining a tidy work area and helping clean up at the end of each day

  • packing finished pieces into boxes for shipping

  • being ADAPTABLE AND WILLING TO JUMP IN AND HELP ACROSS THE FULL SPECTRUM OF NEEDS THAT ARISE IN A PRODUCTION/ART STUDIO. WE ARE A VERY SMALL TEAM AND HAVE AN “ALL HANDS ON DECK” MENTALITY TO ALL TASKS BIG AND SMALL.

  • Being self motivated and finding something to do when waiting for a new task - there is always something to clean!

qualifications:

  • CERAMIC EXPERIENCE / GENERAL COMFORT WITH STUDIO TOOLS AND THE BASIC PRINCIPALS OF POTTERY. SLIP CASTING AND MOLD MAKING EXPERIENCE A HUGE PLUS!

  • Ability to lift 50lbs and be on your feet for hours at a time

  • ACCUTE ATTENTION TO DETAIL AND EXCELLENT PROBLEM SOLVING SKILLS

  • SELF RELIANCE AND ABILITY TO GRASP NEW CONCEPTS AND METHODS WHILE KNOW WHEN TO ASK FOR HELP

  • ABILITY TO MULTITASK AND KEEP TRACK OF TIME and objects IN A FAST-PACED ENVIRONMENT 

  • MUST TRULY ENJOY THE WHOLE CERAMIC PROCESS AND REPETITIVE NATURE OF A HIGH-VOLUME PRODUCTION STUDIO

  • AN INTEREST IN THE HIGH-VOLUME PRODUCTION PROCESS AND EXCITEMENT ABOUT GROWING WITH US AS WE INCREASE OUR PRODUCTION CAPABILITIES

  • CAN PROVIDE IMAGES OF WORK THAT DEMONSTRATE YOUR CERAMIC SKILLSETS 

  • KILN LOADING KNOWLEDGE and maintenance A HUGE BONUS
